Sitz Baths

Sitz Baths are a wonderful way to relieve the swelling, itching and burning that are associated with vaginal imbalances.

A small baby bath or an extra large dish pan will work for this purpose. The amount of water you can use will vary depending on how much extra room there will be in the container by the time you sit in it.

Epsom Salt and Lavender Sitz: Use approximately an 1/8 to a 1/4 cup of epsom salt and one drop of pure lavender essential oil (try to find certified organic oil so that you know it is pure lavender and not anything artificial). Use as much warm water is appropriate and sit for at least ten minutes.

Aloe Vera Sitz: As an alternative to this or as a second step if you feel that additional soothing support is required, you can use aloe juice and sit in a tub of it the same way you sat in the water. If you use the aloe as the first and only sitz, you may use a drop of lavender oil mixed in. The lavender oil helps with irritated, "burned"-feeling tissue...and so does the aloe. Take care that your aloe is fresh as contaminated or spoiled aloe juice could cause infection.

Please note, if infection or open wounds are present, please consult with your health care practitioner before using the above remedies and only use sterile containers and substances.
