Weight and Candida

Candida-caused digestive weakness can cause reduced nutrient absorption, interfering with how much and what parts of our food can be utilized. This problem can cause either weight gain or weight loss.

 

Metabolic imbalance 
Candida related toxicity can surpress glandular and hormonal health responsible for an efficient metabolism and for some people this leads to weight gain. A concern for those with candida is toxicity-induced hypothyroidism (which can be a temporary condition.) Hypothyroidism can be both part of the cause of candida illness and a result. A high carbohydrate diet related to candida cravings can lead to nutrient deficiencies, especially of those vitamins and minerals that are used to properly metabolize carbohydrates (e.g. manganese, B6, magnesium, chromium,  to name a few). This deficiency can reduce your body’s ability to burn carbohydrates efficiently. 

Low beneficial bacterial levels in the intestines and/or built up waste in the colon can reduce absorption of nutrients.


Blood sugar imbalances are also a common temporary symptom associated with candida and can result in weight gain and low energy, mood swing and mental confusion symptoms.

 

Eating the low glycemic foods (as recommended in the Whole Approach diet section) and having small, frequent meals will help to balance your blood sugar and prevent fat storage by the body, mood swings, as well as provide you with more sustainable energy.
